INSHORE YELLOWTAIL AND
CAPE SNOEK CHARTERS
Full or Half Day
The waters surrounding Cape Town provide us with some spectacular
Yellowtail(Seriola Lalandi) fishing throughout the year.
In the summer months we target them off Cape Point and in the winter months
on the west coast off Robben Island and Dassen Island. The average size of
the Yellowtail is 3-5kg and method of capture is trolling artificial lures
and sight casting using metal spinners and plastic plugs imitating baitfish.
Xtreme Fishing Charters specialises in sight casting for Yellowtail which is the most exciting, rewarding and effective way of catching them.

What is sightcasting? This is whereby you locate a shoal of yellowtail feeding on baitfish on the surface or swimming just below the surface. The boat is stopped a short distance from the shoal and metal spinners and plastic plugs are cast over the shoal and retrieved quickly imitating the fleeing baitfish. What is so exciting about this form of capture is that it is very visual and you can often see the yellowtail chasing and taking your spinner or plug on the surface.
The Cape Snoek (Thyrsites Atun) is a highly aggressive predator with very sharp teeth similar to those of the Barracuda. It is an important part of the Cape culture and traditionally caught in the winter months although nowadays it is occasionally caught in summer too. The average size is between 2-5kg and method of capture is bait, Snoek dollies or trolling artificial lures.
